From ultrasounds to hip replacements and more, there are over 500,000 different types of medical technology on the market to help save and transform lives. As one of the top five global hubs for the medtech sector with 18 of the world's top 25 medtech companies having a base here Ireland is recognised as an innovator and an influencer. That's why this European MedTech Week as countries turn their attention towards the importance of the medtech sector, the Irish Medtech Association wants to bring industry, patients and other experts together to identify how we can achieve better results in healthcare by collaborating. During the event we will explore why medtech matters; trends in healthcare; what the new EU medtech regulations mean for patients; clinical research; and innovation for better patient care.

The need for collateral to capture the industry's attractiveness for career development and opportunities was highlighted in the recently launched 'Future skills needs analysis for the medical technology sector in Ireland to 2020' (see www.irishmedtechassoc.ie for more). The Irish Medtech Association are developing a one page roadmap to medtech careers which will chart education trajectories and showcase 'medtech champions'.

Medtech Brew is a new kind of event for medtech start-ups to exchange ideas, network, and form alliances for medtech growth. The second Medtech Brew of 2017 will explore 'Design with the patient in mind'. Healthcare systems are under pressure with demographic changes, the rise of chronic diseases, higher demands and fewer resources. Design can now help transform healthcare and medtech in a similar way to other major manufacturing industries. As this specialist area evolves, getting it right for the patient will be a major driving factor affecting what makes a successful product. We will hear from industry leaders, entrepreneurs and designers how medtech can apply design thinking to help businesses flourish and provide better patient care. Confirmed speakers will include leaders from: Frontend; Dolmen; Design Partners; and Synecco.
During this informative half-day forum you will hear from experts who are at the fore of Ireland's emerging connected health industry and embracing digital technologies in a move away from more traditional healthcare systems. Covering everything from the connected health business model, innovation pathways in connected solutions, design with the patient in mind, regulated software and the new data protection regulation (GDPR). Full agenda to follow. Confirmed speakers will include leaders from: FIRE1; S3 Connected Health; and BlueBridge Technologies
