On 23 June, more than 100 employees from the Solothurn based facilities of DePuy Synthes will enter this year’s Move for Charity event - a half-hour run alongside the Aare river in support of Operation Smile.

Each patient deserves exceptional surgical care regardless of where they’re born or how much money their family makes. Access to simple surgical procedures is a challenge in many developing countries and parts of the developed world. Operation Smile dreams of a world where no child suffers from lack of access to safe surgery. Over the past 29 years, Johnson & Johnson has helped Operation Smile provide more than 100,000 smiles to children around the world through product, financial and employee support.

DePuy Synthes raises funds for children with cleft lip and cleft palate

Zuchwil, 23 June 2017 - Approximately 300 employees of DePuy Synthes, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of Companies Switzerland were at the starting line for the Company’s annual Move for Charity sponsored running event. Employee sponsorships will benefit Operation Smile and allow the treatment of children with cleft conditions (a gap in the lip or roof of the mouth) in resource-poor environments.

Employees from the Solothurn sites of DePuy Synthes started in teams of two and three in this year’s Move for Charity event on 23 June, a half-hour run alongside the Aare river. Sponsored by family, friends and colleagues, funds were raised in support of Operation Smile, an international medical charity that Johnson & Johnson has partnered with since 1988.

Move for Charity is the Company’s largest event in support of the charity. The Swiss contribution will enable Operation Smile to provide free surgical procedures for children and young adults with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities, improving their quality of life.

Over the past 29 years, Johnson & Johnson has helped Operation Smile provide more than 100,000 smiles to children around the world through product, financial and employee support. More than 10,000 employees around the world are engaging in voluntary, employee-driven fundraising campaigns or are donating their time on medical missions. In 2015, Johnson & Johnson pledged a five-year, $25 million commitment, including surgical supplies, to help Operation Smile continue to improve the lives of children and their families. The corporate social engagement is anchored in the company’s Credo since its foundation and aims at ensuring access to advanced medicine to everybody and to contribute significantly to global health.
